On Vacation

So I'm on vacation with the family. Today is the first day I've really had a chance to get out and take pics. We are staying at my mom & stepfather's time share in the Poconos (Lake Harmony, Pa.) It was snowing this morning and been about 30 degrees every day.

Sunday we went to Hershey, Pa. to the Hershey Factory. During the summer they have a whole theme park! This is the second time I've come up in the off season.

We have been playing Bingo and trivia and just sleeping and watching TV. Just relaxing in general.

But today we bundled up tight and went exploring the grounds. Here are a couple of photos from our trip thus far:

And a VERY bundled up version of me!

In the news and the space man!

If you've ever been into my back office you may have seen some of my magazine covers. I have a Bachelor's in Communications/Print Journalism. In layman's terms, journalism. LOL. I have done freelance work for The Florida Times Union since I was a teenager. And I'm still in there about twice a month.

But I also do work for tons of other publications. I have written or done photography for a lot of local publications. I have also done work for small and large publications all over the country. I love my job! Most of all I love the diversity of my work. I love being able to do a newspaper story one day and meeting interesting people and then having a client come to the studio and having a good time shooting them.

This week I have been approached about possibly being in two new publications for me. I don't want to spill the beans to early, so I'll show you a couple of pics from my most recent newspaper story instead.

I did a story about a new program called Science Matters!, Duval county is only one of 15 school districts in the country participating. As part of the event a former NASA astranout, "Hoot" Gibson, showed up. I met with him after the event, he had the most beautiful blue eyes and was very sweet. Unfortunately, the TU doesn't want shots of this guy's gorgeous eyes as their main photo, they want action. LOL.

The story should be running soon, watch for it! I'll upload more photos after it runs. Until then, I just love photos like this where you get everyone's profile. BTW, Hoot is the one in the blue uniform.

A photo shoot I don't want to do

Let me rephrase that, a photo shoot I never hope to have to do.

That's right, there is a shoot I don't want to do, you heard me correctly. I was recently asked to become a photographer for Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep. It's a non profit organization where photographers photograph families and babies when the baby won't make it. Sometimes they are still born, sometimes their on life support and about to be taken off. And recently they added terminally ill children up to the age of 18.

When the woman saw that I was from Jacksonville she said that they really needed more photographers from this area. How could I say no to that? I'm always looking for a good cause to support, and while I've never had a child, nor know what it is like to lose one, I felt that I should do it.

I'm a little nervous about doing it and have a feeling that I'll probably come home and cry my eyes out after each one, but my pain would be nothing compared to what the family is dealing with.
So, I am now a volunteer photographer with Now I Lay Me Down to Sleep.

The woman who founded it is named Sandy Puc and she is a well known photographer in the US. She does amazing work. I went to a photography seminar last night where they had a presentation and interview with her about her non profit. There wasn't a dry eye in the house--and we are talking about 200 photographers!

She is doing a seminar next month on babies and maternity photos, I'm hoping to go. Would love to meet her in person.

Modeling portfolio: Meghan

A couple days ago I posted Adrienne's modeling portfolio, well today I'm going to post her assistant's portfolio pics. Meghan came in about a week after Adrienne (Age) and never had modeling pics done before. Between Age and I she got plenty of instruction! Age packed a bunch of clothes for her and these are some of the shots from that session:

I think this one is her favorite, Meghan has it has her primary one on her Myspace page at the moment.

Going to the chapel, and I'm going to get married!

Well, not me, but a lot of people are! For most businesses January is slow because of all the rush of sales for Christmas. For me, I had a ton of Christmas bookings and now I'm getting tons of calls and emails about wedding photography.

Men LOVE to pop the question during the holidays, so January a lot of brides immediately start planning their weddings and try to reserve the ceremony location and photographer first and foremost.

This week alone I've booked two weddings and have several more consultations to go.

If you are looking for a wedding photographer, call me at 904-891-0359 to set up your consultation. If you are getting married, you really need to look over a FULL album of photos and talk to the photographer, not only will it give you a chance to see the photographer's work from start to finish but you'll see if your personalities mesh well.

Here's some photos I took of a good friend's trash the dress session:

If you like the trash the dress photos or want to learn more, check out my website.

If you have Myspace and want to keep on top of specials and see new photos all the time, add me.

Sunset over Tampa Bay

There was a huge photo convention in Tampa this week. I hadn't planned on going, but a vendor sent me a free ticket, so I couldn't resist! I drove down Monday morning and left Tuesday afternoon. Picked up tons of cool tips and saw the newest products for photography.

On my way to the hotel, I got lost, which is usual for me when I'm traveling and I found this beachside park. After the conference on Monday I grabbed some photos of the moody sky outside the convention center and then hightailed it back to that park, where I got there right as the sun was setting.

Michelle's Suprise Photo Session

Michelle recently emailed me because her husband loves photos so she wanted to have some photos taken of herself to give to him. So she came in on Saturday for his suprise photo session. She also brought her sister in for moral support who had a cute little baby boy!

She didn't want anything too sexy. In fact, one of her clothing choices was a Star Wars costume!

Celebrity Style Makeup by Erica came in to do Michelle's makeup. She really wanted to play up her green eyes, so that's what Erica did. If you are looking for a makeup artist, call Erica at 904-210-6133.

Crusita's 3 month photo session

This is Crusita. I have been photographing her since her first breath in this world--that's right, I even photographed her birth! That's a new service I've been offering, birth photography along with my normal baby portraits and maternity photos.

She came in today for a quick shoot. Her parents really thought it would be cute to put her head in my alligator's mouth. (For any Gator fans out there, this is an awesome prop I keep in my studio!)

A model's session

Adrienne, aka "Age", was referred to my by a past client. She was about to go to another photographer in her area to get some modeling photos done. Orlino (Big Pineapple Records), told her to come to me. By the end of the session she booked a model's portfolio for her assistant as well!

Age had had some photos taken in the past so I looked at what she had and tried to to expand her look a little more and give her portfolio a little more versatility.

Orlino stepped up to the plate and even helped out with the shoot, giving Age a new dimension to her portfolio:

Tattooed fun

Mandy and Holly are two fun, hard rock-smoking-tattooed sisters that came in over the holidays to create some suprise photos for their spouses and to just have a little fun. They wanted something sexy, but fun and they used a combination of props we had in studio (including a wedding dress!) and some they brought of their own (from a guitar to an old hat box!).

The sisters together:

Pretty in pink:

I love photo shoots like this! Holly and Mandy were great to work with. They were open to ideas and brought ideas with them as well.

It was a great chance to have a little fun and try some new ideas. Holly and Mandy seemed to have fun and from what I hear their husbands loved the photos!

In fact I got this note from Holly's husband the day after Christmas: "The pics were amazing thank you so much, they turned out so rad!!" Her husband, is part of a cool musical concept called Plastic Musik, Check 'em out on Myspace or on their website.
