Wow!

I just got home from shooting Marquita and David's wedding (engagement session posted in an earlier blog) and found a very nice referral email in my inbox. If you have been watching my blog, I recently posted pictures from a wedding from Mike & Michelle's wedding as well as their Trash the Dress session, well they finally got around to sending me a referral--and, wow!

I debated editing it down some for length, but I hate when people do that!

We chose Christy for our wedding photography due to her professional demeanor as well as her laid back attitude. My first experience with our photographer was an ad on craigslist.com. I emailed her right away after looking over her site and she replied within 14 hours. Super *SNAPS* for a fast reply, especially on a Sunday, as many companies didn't reply for days.

She followed up a week later to see if I had any questions or anything. We chatted back and forth for a bit and she seemed to be really cool, but I wasn't ready to schedule anything yet because I was crazy busy with school. She checked back with me a few weeks later and were finally ready to schedule. When we first met her, she was really cool and not one of those typical wedding vendors pushing us to sign a contract that day, and was willing to negotiate her packages to help us get exactly what we needed.

Her prices were just right for our budget and her flexibility was unlike any other vendor we had dealt with up to that point. Mainly, I was sold just because she was so laid back and seemed like someone we could totally click with. We signed a contract and placed a deposit that day.

She maintained an open dialogue throughout the months prior to the wedding via Myspace and email. Due to our wedding coming down to the wire, we scheduled our engagement pictures and a “trash the dress” shoot in the same day. She was really great to work with and made us completely comfortable- even when we were shooting pictures at the Fort in St Augustine on a busy Saturday morning and on the beach in cold water!

As soon as we got our pictures back, I was in AWE. She captured our personalities in these pictures and her perspective was so unique and edgy. Her ability to see things with a different eye and her editing skills are unparallel. We knew we made the right choice for our wedding photographer and were completely at ease.

When the wedding day came, she was nothing short of amazing. She arrived early and was prepared with equipment for an indoor or outdoor wedding, due to the on and off rains of the day. Also, she was able to roll with the punches, getting shots that were important to me, that I felt would chronicle the day, such as the reception room prior to the ceremony and pictures of my family. She was very attentive but maintained unobtrusive, as a true photojournalist does.

When the ceremony was about to start, she took pictures of my mother and I talking prior to my walk down our “aisle”, the last few moments as my mom’s little girl before I was to walk towards married life. These shots were among my favorites of the day. Best of all, I didn’t even feel her presence during this cherished moment with my mother, yet she got all the emotion we were feeling in just a few pictures.

During the reception, she got tons of great shots of my family and friends interacting and the details I spent so much time working on. From the first dance, to cutting the cake, and doing the toasts, she was on point and what seemed to be in her element. Most of the time, we didn’t even realize she was there!

She also made sure to give me updates on the time to ensure I kept with the schedule, as she didn’t want us to feel like we were rushing the reception along for cake cutting and toasts. She helped to ensure our day was just as it was meant to be and chronicled each step with elegance and precision.

We got our online proofs back so quickly, I was bragging to friends who had been married a month before us and still hadn’t seen their pictures! We had over 600 amazing picture to choose from, with each capturing a different aspect of the day uniquely.

Christy captured our wedding day with all the layers of family, friends, details, fun, stress, and joy around it. She carried herself in the utmost professional manner, while maintaining a cool and casual approach to her photography. Her photos aren’t just about composition, they really show the genuine feeling of the moment and one shot can tell the whole story.

Her work is edgy, fun, timeless, creative, and conveys emotion- all wrapped up in one package. The quality of her work is unparallel to any other photographers around, and her prices beat everyone else out there! All our friends and family that have seen our pictures are so amazed at how well she captured our day. We would highly recommend Christy without any reservation to our family, friends and anyone looking for a photographer!

Alicia & Pete REALLY trash the wedding dress!

Alicia and Pete came to the studio awhile back to book me to shoot their wedding. I had done a trash the dress session of a couple they knew and they knew they wanted to do the same thing.

I get a lot of brides who like the idea, but most prefer to do it at the beach. Alicia and Pete have a mud pit next to their house and they love to go 4-wheeling in it and get all muddy. They do this almost every weekend, so they knew that's what they wanted to do with a wedding dress.

Of course, like most couples, they didn't actually want to destroy their ACTUAL wedding dress. Especially since, Alicia did the trash the dress session BEFORE the wedding.

Her mom found this awesome wedding dress on Ebay for like $35. And they got the veil from a bridal shop that was going out of business.

I love the idea of doing these sessions before the wedding. A lot of couples like to display engagement photos of themselves at the wedding or in a sign in mat, but trash the dress photos make a statement. They def. make people stop and talk. They don't expect it! Who would? Especially not rolling around in the mud!

Here are some of their formal shots as well as a couple of my favorite trashing pics.

Marie's Modeling Session

I just got done editing Marie's modeling photos. She has a relative who's a model in Atlanta and she was wanting to break in as well.

She wanted to have a makeup artist for her set, but she booked so last minute I couldn't pull one in for her. That's ok though, we figure this would be her general shoot and she wants to come back in another day and do something a little more wild with a makeup artist.

We tried to create a whole bunch of different looks, to give her a bunch of stuff for her portfolio pretty quickly. These are my favorites.

Some props you may recognize. This bear has appeared in a couple of boudoir sessions--so has this hot red couch!

I keep a wedding dress in studio, which has become a popular prop. Marie liked how the musician Pink had tennis shoes under her wedding dress, so we played that up. This photo also has a high contrast filter on it to give it some oomph.

I have these cool vintage hats with netting and they worked out perfectly with Marie. I rarely do sepia toning (red coloring) but I loved the way it looked on a couple of Marie's photos.

Another one in black and white.

Sepia toning again!

This one is a vintage coloring.

Just in case you are confused or don't understand. For all of my sessions I provide color photos, but I also throw in some duplicates with special touches like a vintage look, glow or sepia toning. This is done at no extra charge.

Melissa & Jason

I'm finally getting around to posting a couple of images of Jason & Melissa's wedding from May 4 at the San Marco Preservation Society. Cute church and yard!

They were a cute couple with a small ceremony where the family cooked and everything was done by hand.

Adorable church and location:
Aren't the beams kind of interesting?
And a quick shot of the couple after the ceremony:
The bride had gorgeous flowers! Look at those colors. Nice engagement ring too!

Melissa sent me this note this week after seeing all of her wedding photos:
"Hi Christy. I just looked over the proofs. They all looked awesome!! You did such a great job! I actually looked good in the pictures...that NEVER happens with me :)
"I loved the black and white pictures too. I can't wait to see the album you are putting together for us. I know it's going to be beautiful... They were all fantastic! I will definately be recommending you."

Tons of feedback

I have a couple of new posts I need to make, but for right now, I have had several nice feedbacks come in this week and I thought I'd share. I love great feedback!

The above Andy Warhol inspired picture is from a formal bridal session I did last weekend. I did the couple's engagement photos yesterday. Carolyn and David are getting married July 19th (the groom just got back from Iraq!). Carolyn didn't want David to see any of her formal bridal photos, so this Warhol inspired pic will have to do for now!
BTW, the bride's last name is Love. Isn't that perfect?!
Carolyn's mother sent me a nice little note this week:
Christy,
I am Carolyn Love's mother. I just wanted to tell you that the pictures you took of her are fabulous! I love all the poses and especially the shoes! You did a marvelous job-- you are very talented!
Thank you so much.
Margaret

The little girl above is named Alyssa, she was in a previous blog--remember those baby rolls! Her mommy sent me this note this week:
Thank you so much for taking pictures of my daughter, and I as well. I would have to say honestly, when you have your pictures done by Christy, you not only have a photographer for life, you have a friend for life. You have such a beautiful and awesome talent and I highly recommend you. It amazed me on how well you work with kids. I don’t normally get my pictures done because I am usually the one taking the pictures and now I don’t have to worry about that anymore because now I have you. I look forward to working with you again in the near future.

Thank you again!!!

This is Joi, she is a local middle school student about to celebrate a birthday, so her mom brought her in to get some photos done of her and her friends as well as a couple of ones by herself.
Joi is a tomboy, loves basketball, never wears a dress. At least, that was who she was. Her mother made her wear a dress for the last part of the photo shoot and she called me after her photos went up. She said that she thought Joi would love the basketball photos the best, but no, she actually loved the girly photos I took of her and she may now start wearing dresses. Her mother was thrilled!
I also got this email from mom, Dorothy:

I had no doubt that my daughter's pictures would be nice, but I was compeletly blown away by her pictures. They are ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS!! My daughter is NOT a girly girl so I was expecting her basketball pictures to be her better pictures but much to my amazement her girly pictures are the ones that I like the most.

My daughter's shoot included 4 pre-teens who know everything and are EXTREMELY loud. I told them before we got out of the car to tone down and they did for about 30 seconds. They went into the studio making more noise than an entire basketball team. Christy never lost her cool. I was about to go crazy but Christynever did. She is the ULTIMATE PROFESSIONAL. She knew exactly what needed to be said and when to say it to get the girls to do what they needed to do. I will never use another photographer!

Christy you are Wat's up!!

I am truly in love.

Alyssa is 1!

Sirena called me about a month ago to set up an appointment to photograph her little girl, Alyssa who was turning one. A coworker's son had just turned one and had photos done with me and so she brought Alyssa in for her own birthday photos.

Unfortunately, the day of the shoot they had a wedding to go to afterwards so they foregoed the cake eating finale!

These are a couple of my favorites from Alyssa's session.

This is a vintage effect. I love this look!
Look at that expression!
Girls, always cute in pink! Don't ya love that birthday hat!
Love that expression! Like, "momma, give me back my candy!"
And a vintage effect with her in a tutu. Love those baby rolls!

A Family Portrait at the Beach

Shannon heard about me through her coworkers and called me last month to set up a family portrait while her sister was in town. She finally decided on the beach, and luckily I had a date open during the time her sister was here!

The wanted all the cousins in the photo, 6 kids total.

And when you get that many little ones together at the beach with cousins that are their own age--everyone was ready to play!

These are some of my favorites.

The oldest had to hold the youngest and I asked the younger ones to just walk in front of him, but they were ready to run--you can see who the ring leader is!
The little girls were so cute in their matching white dresses.

I did B&W and a bit of a glow effect on this one.
Sometimes kids can be soo funny, one minute they don't want their photos taken, the next minute they right in your camera lense smiling! (Vintage effect on this one.)

Kids can be so modest around strangers when they are changing or going to the bathroom, but it seems there are some times when modesty just goes out the window with kids!

*Note: Color photos are standard in all my sessions, but I also include additional copies of certain poses with some specialty effects like B&W and others for no extra charge.

Jon & Dana are pregnant

Jon and Dana came in last weekend to get photos of Dana's belly. If you can't tell by the color choices, she's having a girl!

Her husband came with her, which was nice. Jon was a good sport and readily posed with Dana's big belly.

It was a busy weekend, and there'll be more blogs with photos coming up soon!
