A Fantasy in Flowers

I've been blessed with the opportunity to work with and meet Susan of A Fantasy in Flowers out of Mandarin several times in the last couple of months and I thought I'd share a couple shots from those sessions.

Most recently, I ran into Susan at the bridal show at UNF about a week ago and when she was packing up she gave me this gorgeous sunflower bouquet! Let me say that I'm not a huge fan of sunflowers. However, something about this bouquet really struck me. It was firm, hefty and filled with a bold yellow color. I am in love!

I mean wouldn't this bouquet look gorgeous for a summer wedding?

Seriously, I would have never thought of a sunflower bouquet and I have NEVER seen one. It made a gorgeous arrangement at the studio for a week!

I also did Susan's headshots last month and these are some of the shots from those flowers. Susan brought a family heirloom ring that she wanted me to photograph as well so I'm including some of those shots too:

This one is Susan's ring:

Isn't that ring pretty? I love it! I love very contemporary stuff but I am falling in love with vintage rings like this!

Need flowers for a birthday, Mother's Day, wedding or whatever? Give Susan a call, tell her Christy Whitehead sent you!

Paulina Perez, Makeup Artist

I recently had the pleasure to meet with and shoot Paulina Perez. If you don't know who she is, Jacksonville Magazine voted her best makeup artist of 2009, how cool is that!

It's kind of funny, I'm a writer, but I'm not good at writing in my blog, I just prefer the photos to speak for the

Paulina and I wanted to do something a little different. Something fun and funky. So we decided to have a little bit of fun with some sock monkeys!

I wanted to do a product style shot and had Paulina hold this purse that I have as a sample in the studio. I love these photo purses!

Paulina just wrote an awesome blog about me and how I shoot and my demeanor. Paulina is awesome, very sweet and helpful. And while she talks about me and my personality--which is so important when choosing a wedding day photographer, I wanted to show you her actual work!
I love this shot, I did a fun coloring on it and the way she's holding her hair it just looks so vintage!
Paulina complained that she wasn't a model, but she did quite well!
And I love this shot! I had the fan going and she kept pulling the hair from her face, but in this image it just worked!
If you're looking for a makeup artist, check out Paulina's website and tell her you saw her on my blog!

Stephanie Ayres with Wired Salon & Day Spa

I had the chance to meet with Stephanie over at Wired Salon & Day Spa this past week to do her headshots.

She did a couple of standard headshots but she's more of an edgy girl and wanted a little bit more attitude!
Stephanie has this tattoo of a pair of scissors on her arm. It was in such an odd angle but I wanted to get it in a shot or two for her.

Wired Salon is located next to the Orange Park Mall, in the strip mall with the fitness center next to Toys R Us. Go check her out!

Made of Honor

I recently had the honor to photograph Katrina, from Made of Honor Weddings, she is an event planner in the Jacksonville area (although I'm sure she'll travel!).

Katrina was using a snapshot on her social networking sites like Facebook and needed something professional to tie in and help give her that clean, polished look that would tie in with her logo and image.

This one is one of my favorites.
However, I did get her to laugh, which I love this one for its playfulness.
This one has a specialty coloring to it, and Katrina seemed to really like that. It's a bit more serious then I generally like.

Made of Honor Weddings was established in 2006. Katrina McCullum has been in the wedding industry for over 5 years and started in the industry because she has a passion for weddings.

Her company's goal is to go above and beyond for their brides resulting in a memorable and stress-free experience.

------------------------

The one thing I regret doing at my own wedding, was hiring a day of planner. I'm not just saying that. There ended up being so much stress and running around, I really wish I would have had someone there to take care of some of the testy vendors, cleaning up, etc.

Katrina is running a special this month:

Brides now is the time to book your Month of Wedding coordination package ($700). Even if you are not sure you'll need a full or partial planner, you can book now and upgrade later.Ease your mind and know your wedding day is in great hands and truly enjoy your day.

Tricia's little boy

I recently met Tricia and her cute little boy Sebastian. Tricia Kozak is a makeup artist in Jacksonville and she came in for headshots and I snuck in some cute baby butt pictures too!

I have tons of adorable hats in the studio and I love this zebra one against the white background!

And here's some with him and his mommy.

The Sweet Art Shop

So, it's been a busy and hectic couple of weeks. Tons of photo shoots and I've been updating EVERYTHING--business cards, postcards, and the website (which I'm still waiting to hear back from the web designer).

But a sweet spot in the last couple of weeks, Gabby came in with some GORGEOUS and TASTY cakes. I am a sucker for color and she didn't dissapoint...
These lady bugs were ADORABLE. And the only thing not edible was their little antennae!

The daisy cupcakes had chocolate ganache under the flower, yummy!

I used one of the cupcakes for Crusita's 2nd birthday photo shoot. She loved them!

Check Gabby out at www.SweetArtShop.com and tell her Christy sent you! She makes everything from cupcakes to wedding cakes.

NEW WEBSITE SNEAK PEAK!

So here is a sneak peak of the new website, not completely finished yet... Take a peek.

Good day

Had a wedding consultation this morning. The bride said she found me on the web and had seen a lot of good things about me, but wanted to wait until she met with the other photographer her hubby-to-be knew before she put a deposit.

About an hour later she called and came back by the studio and put down a deposit without telling her fiance. She said she liked me and trusted what she had seen on the web and liked the studio and preferred to use me. Made me feel good. Love days like this.

On a side note, I've been EXTREMELY busy updating all my stuff with the new studio name. I know there will be a new blog look, not sure if the blog will still be with blogger or a different company.

I have tons of photos I need to post. Will do that soon!

NEW NEW NEW

I have been pretty busy lady reinventing my logo, pricing, etc.

I think I've finally decided on my logo. See above!

I wanted to focus more on my name as many people were confused by the old name Freelance 4 Hire. For the time being, I'm keeping Freelance4Hire.com not sure yet on future plans with that.

Since everyone loves the lollipop picture and I think it's a sweet image, I played off that and added a lollipop to my logo. And now I have tons of cute play on words, like, "photographing life's sweeteste memories!"

Help a deserving lady!

One of my past brides send me this. She told me a long story about all the reasons this woman deserves this, so please pass this on and vote!

Please place your vote so that an amazing woman, who is so deserving, can win an awesome makeover in NYC!!

Here's a direct link to her vote page.

Nancy is an Occupational Therapist working out of Ponte Vedra and works with children with special needs (many on the Autism spectrum and Cerebral Palsy) and is an amazing person, always giving so much for herself! She even has an adaptive yoga class for some of our patients. She is my current supervisor and is so amazing.

The contest is for the ultimate curly girl weekend in New York which includes a makeover by an amazing stylist who will definitely keep those curls, roundtrip airfare for two to New York, two nights at the W Hotel, two tickets to see "In the Heights", a Broadway play, and a $500 American Express Gift Card and a collection of Ouidad products. And, she will receive the title of "Ouidad Curl Ambassador"!

You can vote more than once per day, per browser, and NO registration required! Takes 2 seconds!! Only one week left to get her to #1! She needs about 500 more votes to get to #1! She has gone from 11th place yesterday afternoon, to 5th place TONIGHT!!!!

I think it would let you vote as many times as you would be willing to clear cookies! It lets me vote in multiple browsers also, there's a vote counter on the bottom to see if the vote gets counted or not!

However, if you can just place one vote, once per day until next Thursday, it will totally help bring our girl to the top!

Thanks all and I hope our curly girl can win!

And PLEASE Pass this along to friends and family that would be willing to help her win!

Jax Idol

One of the reasons I haven't posted too much lately is that I've been doing some extra newspaper and magazine work. One of the recent stories I did was about the local talent competition Jax Idol. You can read the story here.

Businesses are closing

I posted this on Myspace, but I figured it was worth repeating here... (I'll post pics soon, I promise!)

In the small plaza where I have my studio 4 businesses have closed over the last year. The economy is bad and we are all hurting, but we also have to do our part to support small business owners.

Why? Because they are your neighbors, your parents, your siblings. They also supply numerous jobs to people all around you. When one little company goes under it hurts a lot of people.

Another good reason to shop local? Choices. While many people love Walmart, just by supporting Publix instead for your grocery needs supports a smaller business and helps save jobs.

Personally, I find that Publix has friendlier employees and you can't beat their buy one get one free sales every weekend. But if we stop shopping those smaller businesses, they will leave. It happens in towns all across America and in our own town.

You may say "who cares" but this allows the bigger stores to then up their prices because they don't have anyone to compete with. Walmart is known for this.

Are you a small business owner? Then you, especially, should be supporting small businesses.
So look around you. Look in your own neighborhood, even here on Myspace, find those small businesses and support them! Find those hole in the wall restaurants, those unique gift shops and other places and show your support! You'll be helping yourself in the end.

For those of you who have made it through this, THANK YOU! For those of you that have shopped a local or small business lately, THANK YOU.

And for those of you that are my clients, THANK YOU. Without you, I am nothing.

So, tell a friend. Tell them about me, tell them about someone else. Just tell them about that awesome small business owner you know! You will be helping your community, I promise.

Introducing...

Earlier this month I did a roadtrip with my mom up to North Carolina to see my brother's first child. So without further adieu, introducing...

The above is a a blanket I made for her and hand stitched her name into the "H," thus creating "Haley." I am by no means great at embroidery or sewing, but I get by. I would probably get by a lot better if my Singer sewing machine acted decent. Seems my Brother sewing machine worked much better and didn't give me quite as many problems.

My brother is a fireman. We got a couple of shots of the baby with one of his old helmets, but we worried about chemicals on his uniform or current helmets so didn't do anything to cute with that theme. I did like this with his fireman tattoo though.
This is my brother Daniel and his wife Stephanie.

A friend painted the baby's room with cute little flowers. The blanket wrapped around Haley was crocheted by our grandmother Elaine.
It's been one of those months, have had tons of family things to do. Figured I would at least share these pics with you. Will update soon with other stuff, including my new addiction, lol.
